Harare Bureau
Two of Harare’s pole dancers and strippers, Zoey Sifelani and Beverley Sibanda, were yesterday morning arrested for public indecency.
This follows an outcry from the public after a local tabloid published semi-nude pictures of the two raunchy dancers performing what appeared to be pornography on stage.
Both Zoey and Beverley were picked up around 11am and were taken to the Commercial Crime Unit at Harare Central Police Station where they were interviewed for hours.
Sibanda’s manager Harpers Mapimhidze yesterday confirmed the two’s arrest and said they were still in police custody late last night.
“I accompanied them to the police station and they had their operating permits with them. They are both registered with the Dancers Association of Zimbabwe and the Censorship Board.
“The police have been questioning them, but I am not yet clear on the charges that would be preferred against the two,” he said.

PRESIDENT Mugabe yesterday urged the Western world to condemn the cold-blooded murder of former Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi with the same contempt and platitudes they displayed in the wake of the killing of Chris Stevens, who was the US ambassador to Libya, earlier this month.
Colonel Gaddafi was murdered in front of world cameras last October by Nato-backed rebels. The US ambassador was killed in similar circumstances when the US embassy was stormed by Libyan rebels this month.
In his address to the General Assembly on Tuesday, US president Barack Obama made an impassioned address about the death of the US envoy, a refrain that was picked by many speakers drawn from the Western block.
President Mugabe reminded the US president that his country was a member of the same Nato that had killed Colonel Gaddafi, and slammed the US and its allies for pratcicing double standards.Police to launch operation against touts
