Mathema calls for legalisation of shebeens

THE Governor of Bulawayo, Ambassador Cain Mathema, yesterday called on Government to legalise shebeens, saying the laws barring their operations were colonial.
Governor Mathema told Chronicle that shebeen operators should be given licences and be allowed to operate like other business people.
“Shebeen operators should be given licences and be able to operate without being victimised. Victimisation of shebeen operators did not start after independence, it started during the colonial era and now the country is following the same route and that is wrong,” he said.
