Bulawayo gets $500 000 for water projects

TREASURY has released $500 000 for water projects in Bulawayo amid revelations that a technical glitch is preventing the city from accessing water from Mtshabezi Dam whose pipeline has just been completed.
Addressing residents at a water stakeholders’ meeting organised by Bulawayo Agenda at the Small City Hall yesterday, Minister of Water Resources Management and Development, Samuel Sipepa Nkomo, said an expert had been brought in to attend to the problem at Mtshabezi.
Two ‘over-aged’ children denied school places

TWO Bulawayo boys aged 13 and 14 have reportedly been denied places at school as authorities say their ages are no longer eligible for primary education.
The two minors (names withheld for legal reasons) dropped out of school at the ages of 11 and 12 when their parents separated two years ago.

Guatemala trio get life ban for match-fixing
It’s an ugly day for soccer in Guatemala, with three national team players banned for life by FIFA for match-fixing, according to an Associated Press report.
Guillermo Ramirez, Gustavo Cabrera and Yoni Flores were all handed lifetime bans after an investigation found that the three were involved in fixing friendlies against Venezuela in 2011 and Costa Rica in May of this year, plus a CONCACAF Champions League group-stage match in October 2010 between CSD Municipal of Guatemala and Santos Laguna of Mexico.
Guatemalan sides lost all three matches, including a 6-1 defeat to Santos.
Politicians shouldn’t cause alarm and despondency
Finance Minister Tendai Biti on Thursday assured civil servants that they will be paid their annual bonuses as usual. It was a timely announcement by the Finance Minister who civil servants now regard as being insensitive to their plight. Minister Biti had already caused panic among civil servants recently when he indicated that civil servants’ bonuses were in doubt this year citing depressed revenue inflows.
Asiagate bans: Fifa responds

FIFA have finally responded to the on-going Asiagate saga and directed that all individuals wishing to appeal against the bans imposed on them by Zifa should exhaust all domestic channels before seeking recourse with the world soccer governing body.
The world body also expressed gratitude to Zifa for undertaking an exercise to investigate allegations of match-fixing and gave the association three major conditions they would want them to satisfy in line with the Fifa disciplinary code. Fifa also requested Zifa to furnish them with more details on the manner in which they had effected life bans on 15 individuals they alleged were the masterminds in the match-fixing scandal.

CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League president Twine Phiri said yesterday that the Battle of the Titans between Dynamos and Highlanders is on tomorrow at Rufaro Stadium despite the controversy regarding the BancABC’s announced incentives for the big match.
BancABC, the principal sponsors of Highlanders and Dynamos on Thursday announced a $15 000 winners take all prize for the match, $5 000 for a goal inside five minutes, $3 000 for each goal scored and $1 500 for the man-of-the- match.
