Myths, facts and sanctions
A fortnight ago, I had the privilege of listening to a presentation by Bishop Trevor Manhanga at the Lead Zimbabwe Conference. The presentation, titled “The Zimbabwe we want economically”, challenged the church in particular to stand up and be counted on key areas of national interest.
Bishop Manhanga said in part, “Firstly, I am sure that we all are aware that myths are not supported by facts, they merely have supporters. As church leaders, therefore, it is important to make this distinguishing fact because oftentimes, we continue to regurgitate myths from our pulpits when they are not facts and soon enough if a myth is repeated often enough, it is accepted as fact . . .
