Zanu-PF Byo postpones elections

THE holding of elections for the chairman of Zanu-PF Bulawayo province, which was scheduled for today, has been postponed following the death of Cde Josiah Thwala.

Cde Thwala, who was the provincial secretary for legal affairs, died in a car accident on the outskirts of Bulawayo along the Bulawayo-Harare Road on Thursday evening.

However, elections in Matabeleland North will go ahead where Cdes Richard Moyo from Umguza district and Cde Patrick Utete from Hwange district would contest for the senior leadership post.

Bulawayo and Matabeleland North have been operating without substantive chairpersons following the suspension of Cde Isaac Dakamela (Bulawayo) in March this year and Cde Zwelitsha Masuku (Matabeleland North) late last year.

43 000 Zimbabweans deported from SA

NEARLY 43 000 Zimbabweans were deported from South Africa through Beitbridge Border Post over the last 12 months as the crackdown on illegal immigrants continues in the neighbouring country.

South Africa resumed the deportation of undocumented Zimbabweans on 7 October last year during which the first group of 261 deportees was brought in from Johannesburg in four buses under the escort of the neighbouring country’s Home Affairs officials.

Officer commanding police in Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Lawrence Chinhengo, said between October last year and this year, they handled 42 940 deportees.
