CHIEFS in Zimbabwe will continue supporting Zanu-PF as it is the only party that brought back land, which had been taken by the country’s erstwhile colonisers, president of the Chief’s Council, Chief Charumbira said.
The chiefs are custodians of local culture and owners of the land.
In his address to the 13th Zanu-PF Annual People’s Conference recently, Chief Charumbira said the revolutionary party’s policies were in line with the chiefs’ objectives of feeding and taking care of the people.
Woman abandons baby born with multiple deformities

A woman from Mberengwa allegedly abandoned her newly born baby at Mnene Mission Hospital when she discovered that it had multiple deformities.
The woman only identified as Margaret (34), reportedly bolted out of the labour ward and fled from the hospital after she learnt of the baby’s deformities.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning.

Mpilo senior official jailed

A senior employee at Mpilo Central Hospital was yesterday sentenced to five years in jail for defrauding the health institution of R200 000.
Edgar Mdongo (43), of 72313 Lobengula West had pleaded not guilty to forgery and fraud, but was convicted by Bulawayo senior magistrate Mrs Thobekile Mkhosana-Matimbe.
Three years of his sentence were suspended on condition he pays full restitution by 31 January next year.

Gweru man arrested for reconnecting electricity

A Gweru man was on Thursday arraigned before the magistrates courts after he allegedly tampered with Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Distribution Company (ZETDC) breakers and reconnected electricity.
Norert Manduku, of 1359 Nehosho, Senga in Gweru, allegedly reconnected electricity illegally at his house after a Zesa worker had disconnected power for non- payment of bills.
He was not formally charged when he appeared before Gweru provincial magistrate Mr Phathekile Msipa.
