Council further extends 50 pc discount offer

Harare City Council has once again extended the 50 percent discount offer to ratepayers and corporates who settle their debts in full to December 31. In an interview, Harare corporate communications manager Mr Michael Chideme said the city decided to listen to the people’s cry for the offer to be extended.

First Lady brings Xmas cheer to needy

First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa yesterday launched the Christmas Giving Hand programme aimed at assisting vulnerable groups with food hampers as part of the Christmas festivities. Boy (16) arrested for carjacking

Police have arrested a 16-year-old Dzivaresekwa boy after he allegedly stole a Honda Fit he had hired at Chitubu Shopping Centre in Glen Norah. The suspect was arrested by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Vehicle Theft Squad (VTS) for theft of motor vehicle as defined in Section 113 (a)(i) of the Criminal law (Codification and Reform Act) Chapter 9:23. CID spokesperson Detective Inspector Portia Chinho confirmed the arrest.

Merspin secures Swiss partners

Bulawayo-based textile concern Merspin Limited, has secured technical partners from Switzerland to redesign the local plant and recommend new equipment for the proposed factory upgrade.

Govt starts retiring youth officers

GOVERNMENT has started retiring 3 384 youth officers as part of the civil service reforms announced in the 2019 National Budget and in line with its Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP). In a statement, Public Service Commission Secretary Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe said the retirement criterion was based on one’s requisite qualifications to be engaged as a public officer.

Chitungwiza proposes $51m budget

Chitungwiza Municipality has proposed to increase its 2019 budget to $51,15 million from $28,3 million due to a large number of homes that it is expecting to regularise next year. Chitungwiza finance director Mrs Evangelista Machona said the budget increase will not affect tariffs.

Accidents: Tough measures proposed

The Passenger Association of Zimbabwe has urged the Government to ban the use of second-hand tyres on public service vehicles following the death of 17 people in a road accident along the Harare-Nyamapanda highway on Sunday. Twelve people died on the scene of the accident near Juru Growth Point in Mashonaland East Province. Two more died from their injuries on admission at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
