The graduates are expected to work with two de-mining companies from Europe which are scheduled to come in the country soon.
The course termed “De-mining and Survey Train the Trainer” was facilitated by the ICRC and the ZNA.
The graduates will use the knowledge acquired to train officers in safe de-mining methods in their respective units.
Director of the course Lieutenant Colonel Simbarashe Zhou said the course was an eye opener to the ZNA as they acquired modern methods of clearing mines.
Lt Col Zhou applauded efforts by the ICRC in ensuring that the course was a successful. “Technically, the course was of importance to the ZNA,” he said.
“We learnt new methods different from what we used to know.
“We acknowledge the efforts of ICRC and would like to thank them for their assistance.”
Lt Col Zhou warned community members in areas with landmines to be cautious and keep their livestock from infested areas.
Chairman of the National Mine Action Authority of Zimbabwe Mr Patrick Machaya said the ICRC’s relations with the Government should continue as it dates back to the days of the liberation struggle.
Head of Regional Delegation for IRCR Mr Pascal Cuttat said the ICRC was committed to working with the Government till the landmines are cleared.
He urged those graduating to apply the acquired skills for the country’s benefit.
Zimbabwe is battling to clear landmines planted by the Ian Smith regime especially along its borders during the liberation struggle.
The landmines were meant to deter liberation war fighters from venturing into the interior.
