Over 200 officers graduated after completing the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS), VIP protection course at Shamva Battle Camp last week.
Of the graduates, 206 were males, and 43 females.
Speaking during the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Nobert Mazungunye commended the collaboration between ZPCS and the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in facilitating a VIP Protection Course.
“It is indeed gratifying to note the collaboration between the ZRP and ZPCS.
“The course marked a shift in responsibilities, with ZPCS now providing VIP protection for judiciary officials.”
The ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu expressed confidence in the graduates.
“I have no doubt that you will rise to the challenge with utmost vigilance, professionalism, and dedication.
“The six-week training programme though seemingly short, I assure you that course has an intensive and comprehensive curriculum capable of equipping participants with a robust understanding of VIP protection.
“The course includes weapon handling, securing vital installations, privileges, and immunities of VIPs and diplomats, training in radio communication, and the history of Zimbabwe thereby fostering patriotism, loyalty, and nationalism.
“It is of paramount importance for me to highlight that the skills acquired, will be invaluable to them as they assume the responsibility of safeguarding our important figures, premises, and vital installations within the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.”
He also emphasized the importance of unity amongst uniformed forces and warned against drug and substance abuse.
“We must work in harmony, complementing each other’s efforts to ensure the safety and security of our nation.”
“Taking drugs and substances such as crystal meth, mutoriro, Guka; Broncleer (Bronco) Cannabis/Marijuana/Mbanje can shorten your careers as correctional officers.
“The presence of women among the graduates resonates with ZPCS’s gender policy which aims to promote the inclusion of women in all sectors of the organisation as evidenced by this occasion.”
