The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission will be conducting by-elections on Saturday in Ward 1, Victoria Falls, Matabeleland North, Ward 38, Makoni Rural District Council, Manicaland and Ward 10 of Bindura Rural District Council, Mashonaland Central.
Ward 1 became vacant on July 24, 2024, after the sitting councillor was recalled by his party.
The vacancy for Ward 38 of Makoni Rural District Council occurred on September 18, 2024, when the incumbent councillor resigned while the vacancy in Ward 10 of Bindura Rural District Council occurred on September 26, 2024, when the sitting councillor died.
In Ward 1, Zanu PF candidate Cde Tonderai Mutasa will battle it out with an independent candidate Mr Ephias Mambume, while in Ward 38 Makoni RDC, Zanu PF candidate Cde Tonderai Madumira will be contesting against an independent candidate Mr Leonard Zuze.
In Bindura Rural District Council by-elections, Zanu PF candidate Cde Bigboy Nyakudya will battle it out with an independent candidate Erisa Masimbiti in Ward 10.
ZEC chief elections officer Mr Utoile Silaigwana confirmed that preparations for the by-elections are in full swing with all material and human resources already in place.
He said ward elections officers, deputy ward elections officers, presiding officers and polling officers for all electoral centres have been recruited and trained.
A total budget of US$120 000 has been set aside for the three by-elections
Printing and Minting Company of Zimbabwe printed the ballot paper in terms of section 52A (2) of the Electoral Act.
At least seven polling stations have been set aside for Makoni RDC, among them Alpha Damburamuchato, Bexhill Farm, Crofton Farm, Headlands Kop, lawrencedale Primary School, Moodiesville Primary School and St Joseph Primary School.
In Bindura, the electorate will be casting their votes at Cornerstone Primary School, Garikai Extension, Kingstone Farm, Maravanyika Primary School, Wayerera Primary Schools A and B.
In Ward 1, Victoria Falls voters will be casting their votes at Angels Junior School, Baobab Primary School and an Open Space opposite Landela Complex.
A total number of 9227 voters are expected to cast their votes.
