3 killed in Odzi accident

THREE people, including an infant, died while four others were severely injured after the driver of a haulage truck they were travelling in failed to negotiate a curve near Odzi.

Police confirmed the incident saying the driver, Munyaradzi Mudyanenzeve, was speeding.

The deceased, Precious Mafuta (55), Nyaradzo Ruberito (28) and Dzokesai Chipangura (2) died on the spot after sustaining serious head and knee injuries.

“Munyaradzi was driving a haulage truck which was carrying 30 tonnes of chrome ore from Rusape to Mutare around 4.30pm. Upon approaching the 76km peg at Chikwiri Turn off, he failed to control the vehicle and hit a tree. The truck overturned and trapped three passengers who died on the spot. Munyaradzi and three other passengers, Fungai Mungazi (41), Chido Rwaki (32) and Nomore Berito (16) were severely injured and were ferried to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda.
