$300 debt leaves man paralysed

A 28-year-old Harare man was left paralysed after his cousin allegedly stabbed him with a knife at the back of his neck and left it embedded for failing to pay back a $300 debt.

Monarch Chibiku (31) appeared before magistrate Mr Noel Mupeiwa facing attempted murder charges.

Chibiku was remanded to Monday for trial. After the attack, Chizanga called out for his wife who saw him lying face down with a knife stuck on his neck.

Neighbours helped in, rushing Chizanga to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he received treatment since October 2015. The prosecutor Ms Rufaro Mhandu alleged that the incident occurred on October 3 last year around 9pm.

It is alleged that Chibiku went to Chizanga’s house intending to collect $300 he was owed. He was advised by Chizanga that he did not have the money and this led to a heated argument.

Chibiku allegedly drew an okapi knife from his pocket and stabbed Chizanga once on the neck.

He fled the scene, leaving his cousin for dead.
