THE African Development Bank has approved the release of $33 million to improve water and sanitation in Bulawayo. The bank confirmed the development in a statement yesterday.
“The bank recently approved $33 million to improve clean water access in Bulawayo, the country’s second largest city,” reads the statement.
“The Bulawayo Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (BWSSIP) seeks to boost municipal water supply and sanitation services, thereby contributing to improved health and social well-being of the population,” it said.
It is also funding a number of projects across the country.
“This comes at a time when ZimFund Phase I project implemented in six cities in the country, has just been completed and Phase II projects have commenced,” reads the statement.
“The ZimFund is administered by the AFDB, and its donors have to date contributed around $145 million towards water and power projects in the country.”
ZimFund was created as an emergency response by donors to the humanitarian challenges faced by the country.
The fund incorporated AFDB to assist in the restoration of basic water, sanitation and power infrastructure projects.
