Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage permanent secretary, Aaron Nhepera, said this on Friday at the 39th Police Staff College graduation ceremony.
Three hundred and eighty nine police, army and prison officers completed various diploma programmes in Law, Business Management and Adult Education as well as certificates in law and policing training methods and traffic management.
“Let me start by expressing my appreciation to the Zimbabwe Republic Police through the Commissioner General of Police for attaching value to human capital development,” said Nhepera.
“It is encouraging to note that the organisation, through institutions such as the Police Staff College, has continued to imbue police officers with knowledge that has prepared them for modern trends in policing.
“Furthermore, it is edifying that the ZRP Staff College has gone a step further in this quest and partnered various institutions of higher learning as a way to elevate the content and status of the programmes that it offers. “May I therefore challenge the graduates to utilise the gained knowledge in ensuring a safe and secure Zimbabwe where peace prevails at all times.
“You must realise that the knowledge that you have amassed at this institution may become worthless if you don’t use it. “
He added: “Indeed, what use would it be for one to toil day and night assimilating knowledge which they intend not to use at all?
“In this regard, I implore you to now execute your law enforcement duties with the increased tact and zeal of a well-informed police officer.
“It is also incumbent upon you to share this knowledge with your peers so as to increase its impact in the organisation.
“It is often said and correctly so too that; knowledge, just like manure, is useless unless you spread it around,” he said.
Nhepera challenged other uniformed services to utilise the knowledge gained in contributing to a better Zimbabwe.
“We remain alive to the need to capacitate the organisation with modern tools of the trade so as to ensure that a befitting service is delivered to our citizens. “I am confident that the curriculum of these programmes is not only relevant, but rich enough to properly equip the security architecture of the country,” said Nhepera.
Among the 389 graduates were 15 members of the Zimbabwe National Army, the Air Force of Zimbabwe and the Prisons and Correctional Service.
