The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 8pm.
National traffic acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luckmore Chakanza said the vehicle which had five occupants arrived at a river bridge near the 51km peg along the Roy-Buffalo Range Roads.
“There were several cars which were queued since the river bridge was flooded but the driver of the Mercedes Benz overtook all of them before plunging into the bridge.
“The vehicle was swept away and only one passenger managed to escape after breaking the rear right window and swimming to safety,” he said.
He said by yesterday police had retrieved three bodies and were still looking for the other one. By last week, 10 people had drowned this month when vehicles they were travelling in were swept away at flooded rivers.
