Chombo criticises university programmes

Speaking at the Chinhoyi University of Technology 10th anniversary commemoration here Wednesday, Acting Higher and Tertiary Education Minister Ignatius Chombo said focus should be on wealth creation programmes. Dr Chombo said the wealth-creating programmes would provide the businesses that would employ the managers.

“A careful analysis of degree programmes offered in our universities reflect massive duplication of programmes especially in business and management.

“Is that what we want as a country? If we flood the market with business managers, are we sure that is what will drive the country forward?”

He said the focus should be on production, wealth-creation and entrepreneurship so that the business managers would have something to manage.

Chinhoyi University of Technology evolved from being a teacher training college 10 years ago into a fully-fledged university.
