ZRP Morris Depot won the Netball Super League promotional play-offs after beating Ngezi based Zimplats 11-6 in the final played at Stodart Hall in Harare on Saturday. The police outfit together with Zimplats  as well as Chinhoyi University of Technology and Green Buffaloes who made it to the                   last four, earned places in the Super League.

Morris Depot stormed into the finals after topping their group before dispatching fellow police outfit, ZRP Manicaland 20-10 in the quarter-finals to book a place in the semi-finals.

The winners then accounted for Green Buffaloes 10-7 in the last four to earn a berth in the final.

Platinum miners Ngezi dispatched Zimparks 12-10 in the last eight before beating Chinhoyi University of Technology 11-9 to proceed to the final.

In the third place play-off the varsity outfit beat Green Buffaloes 14-7.

However, of the 27 teams which had confirmed participation only 17 teams turned up with the majority of the absentees coming from the Southern Region where only Binga based Mwachepa and Lusulu were the only representatives after Bulawayo, Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Midlands failed to send representatives.

Zimbabwe Netball Association president, Leticia Chipandu blamed the absence of  other clubs to logistical and financial challenges.

“Unfortunately, some clubs could not make it due to logistical and financial challenges. However, the tournament was a resounding success as we had representatives from most of the provinces taking part.

“The quality of play has greatly improved in the provinces and there was great zeal and hunger shown by the teams to play in the elite league,” she said.
