adminThe tournament will start with 40 participating schools attending the official opening which will be a precursor to the inaugural High School Quiz tournament.
According to the organisers, preparations are going according to plan.
“Our technical partners already have the electronic quiz system in place, for use in the tournament.
“The response from the schools at provincial level has been overwhelming and we are expecting that as we gather momentum towards the national tournament the spirit of competitiveness will reach its apex,” said Errol Muzawazi, editor-in-chief of the Book of African Records, who are the organisers.
The tournament is an empowering tool that will make learning exciting and encourage students to sharpen their minds and think outside the box.
“Our aim is to bring back to television the number one edutainment programme,” highlighted one of the organisers.
For the 2013 edition, the major prizes available are sure to get quiz teams sharpening their general knowledge on Zimbabwe and Africa. The first prize, courtesy of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Dr Washington Mbizvo, is a scholarship to any state university in Zimbabwe for each member of the winning team.
This means by winning the national finals, the team members automatically win a university place without paying the tuition fees and also receiving a stipend for living expenses for the duration of their studies.
“A consolation prize for the runners-up, to be sponsored by the Book of African Records, is an educational trip to the Egyptian Pyramids whereas the third-placed team will get a trip to Victoria Falls, sponsored by Khanondo Safaris,” said Muzawazi.
He said the quiz tournament was an empowering tool for the participating schools.
“The idea behind the Book of African Records quiz is to give to society an empowering tool, educationally, that will inspire the participants across the country to get more knowledge about the country and prod them to take responsible action towards community development,” Muzawazi said.
