5 more suspects identified in cop murder case

Nyararai, who testified as the sixth witness in the murder trial at the High court yesterday, pinpointed Tungamirai Madzokere, Yvonne Musarurwa, Lazarus Maengahama, Rebecca Mafukeni and Simon Mapanzure as part of the people who were present when the violence broke out.
The five bring the number of accused persons described and identified in court so far to six.
Last Maengama was the first to be identified by fourth State witness Constable Solomon Mushaninga.
Asst Insp Nyararai, who is based at Glen View Police Station, said it was easy for him to recognise the five because he already knew them.
In his evidence, Asst Insp Nyararai said he went to Glen View 3 shops with the police reaction group led by the late Insp Mutedza.
Asst Insp Nyararai said he remained in the truck with the driver Sergeant Major Judith Mutsigwa as the others jumped out in front of Munyarari Bar.
Asst Insp Nyararai said he only heard the message that things were not okay at the back of the bar and they drove that side.
While at the back, they found no one as the group had left for the front of the bar.
They again drove to the front where Asst Insp Nyararai found Insp Mutedza’s body lying on the ground facing upwards.
He noticed injuries and recovered a police radio that was now in pieces.
Asst Insp Nyararai also told the court that he picked some of the stones used in the attack and took them to the police station as exhibits.
Prosecutor Mr Edmore Nyazamba produced three stones and a brick as exhibits.
Mrs Beatrice Mtetwa unsuccessfully attempted to object to the production of the exhibits arguing that the State was trying to smuggle exhibits.
The trial continues on Monday with Ms Mtetwa continuing with the cross-examination.
