62 soldiers graduate in Nyanga

A TOTAL of 62 Zimbabwe Defence Forces officers were conferred with certificates at a joint graduation of the Company Group Commanders Course 1 /56 and Platoon Commanders Course 2 /57 held at Nyamombe Border Camp last Friday. The two courses provided the participants with a clear understanding of the nature of military operations, skills and attitudes that would enable them to lead company group and platoon size sub-units across the spectrum of war and peace. Officiating at the graduation ceremony, the Chief of Staff Quartermaster Staff, Major-General Douglas Nyikayaramba, applauded female soldiers for taking part in the five-month long course.

“There were three lady officers on the Platoon Commanders Course and one on the Company Group Commanders Course. These ladies were subjected to the same gruelling conditions as their male counterparts.

“The fact that they are here as part of the graduands shows the strides women have made in breaking the old barriers of being looked down upon. “The ZDF provides equal opportunities for all its members without regard for gender,” said Maj-Gen Nyikayaramba.
