MPHAFA Media is set to premiere a play 6th Avenue at Bulawayo Theatre which is a voice for the voiceless, who are the vendors.
The theatre play will première for two nights on 8 and 9 November. It is a three-female cast play representing mothers who rise early in the morning and make their way to the streets.
The cast will include Nomvuyiso Mabi who has been nominated for several awards in the past, Chelesile Mpofu who has also done several TV projects, her latest being Inkaba which she recently got nominated as the best actress and Londile Mlotshwa who has done a number of works including the musical play 1894 which went as far as South Africa two years ago.
The play was written by Thulani Mbambo and Sipho Khamanga who recently did “The Grand Taimaz” a mini-musical play that premiered on 26 October.
Mbambo has been in the theatre space for more than three decades, mostly working with the late Cont Mdladla Mhlanga at Amakhosi.
The play was directed by Scrah Mudala, an Amakhosi alumni and a lecturer at Midlands State University.
Khamanga, co-writer and producer of the play said the play was a true-life story about vendors and the setting is at 6th Avenue in Bulawayo’s city centre.
“We observed the vendors in the streets, how they interacted and worked while working on the play,” he said.
