A Harare man has been sentenced to seven months in prison after violently assaulting his wife during a dispute over a mobile phone password.

Brian Ndomu (28), of Ushewekunze, was on Thursday last week convicted of physical abuse by Mbare magistrate Ms Precious Madzoke. He was initially sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, but five months were suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve an effective seven-month jail term.

The court heard that the complainant, Ms Zorodzai Chuwe (23), was attacked in the early hours of January 18, 2026, following a misunderstanding with her husband.

Prosecutor Ms Blessing Chibowere told the court that at around 3am, a dispute arose between the couple over access to a cellphone password.

During the altercation, Ndomu became violent and struck his wife once on the mouth with a stone, resulting in a broken tooth.

The assault did not end there.  The court further heard that he bit her on the back and left arm and also scratched her face with his fingers.
