A TOTAL of 701 graduates comprising 336 female and 365 male students were presented with certificates at the TelOne Centre for Learning’s 2023-2024 graduation ceremony held in Harare last week.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera, hailed the power of education in driving economic development and innovation.
“Today, we celebrate not only the accomplishments of our graduates, but also the profound role education plays in fostering economic growth and development in Zimbabwe. As we progress towards the objectives of the Smart Zimbabwe 2030 Master Plan, National Broadband Plan, and Education 5.0, we aspire to harness the potential of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship to create a brighter future for our nation and its citizens.
“TelOne Centre for Learning is a vital embodiment of President Mnangagwa’s vision, empowering graduates with ICT skills and fostering innovation that will drive economic growth.
“The training received here is globally recognised, and we are proud to celebrate the successes of our graduates, including Chakwizira Diza, a student from this institution who came first in the global Huawei Leap Summit in June 2024 and also in 3rd place in Huawei Seeds for the Future ‘Digital On, limits off,” said Minister Matevera.
TelOne chief executive Engineer Lawrence Nkala was proud of TelOne’s commitment to gender mainstreaming.
“TelOne is proud to report that of our 701 graduate students, 48 percent are female and 52 percent are male, demonstrating our commitment to gender mainstreaming in line with the national agenda.
“We are delighted to witness a significant improvement in the number of female graduates, from 43 percent in 2022 to 48 percent in 2024. Notably, two of our female students have achieved first-class honours this year. This is a milestone for TelOne and a promising indication of the growing role of women in the ICT sector,” he said.
Deputy chairperson of TelOne Centre for Learning Mrs Nomusa Jowah expressed confidence in the institution’s ability to produce a skilled and technologically proficient workforce.
“TelOne Centre for Learning has developed a skilled and technically equipped workforce to serve our nation. As the world continues to shift towards digitalisation, we are confident that our graduates will be at the forefront of leading this transformation, and we look forward to welcoming more students to our institution”, she said.
