He was not asked to plead to aggravated indecent assault charges when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini.
Mr Jarabini remanded him on free bail to April 2 for trial.
Circumstances were that on an unknown date to prosecutor Mr Lovet Muringwa during the first week of March, the girl was sent by her mother to collect a napkin from his bedroom.
The court heard that, the old man grabbed the girl and started fondling her but she did not tell anyone.
Further allegations are that on March 21, she was sent again by her mother to collect sewing thread from his bedroom.
She spent a lot of time in the room until she was called out.
After being asked by her mother why she had taken too long to come back, the girl narrated her ordeal.
Her mother reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest.
