The 77th edition of Mashonaland West Agricultural Show kicked off yesterday in Chinhoyi with over 100 exhibitors showcasing their wares and services.
This year’s event which runs under the theme “Productivity for Industrialisation and Economic Development,” is expected to be headlined by the Deputy Head of Mission and Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Zimbabwe, Mr Cheng Jan tomorrow.

The Show Society chairman, Mr Godfrey Mavankeni said there was an increase in the exhibitors despite the nation experiencing an El Nino induced drought during the 2023-24 summer cropping season.

Mashonaland West Agricultural Show is the biggest annual event in the provincial administrative capital.

“Zimbabweans are known to be resilient, and this attribute is on display as there are more exhibitions than in the previous editions,” he said.

“We expect the show to be bigger and better considering that we also have new participants. We have just over 100 exhibitors and some are still coming in.

Judging of commercial stands and agri-produce will take place today before the provincial Agribusiness Conference’s annual general meeting.

The Herald toured various stands that had been successfully mounted at the exhibition park located on the outskirts of the town where farmers were also busy preparing for the show

Various musicians including Kae Chaps, Zimdancehall chanter, Uncle Epatan and local artists are billed to perform during the fun day on Saturday.
