“Opportunities don’t happen, you create them,” said Christopher Grosser who founded and launched a profitable photography company at the age of 18. His work has been viewed by millions in over 85 countries. Walter Ganzwa, a young entrepreneur from Kuwadzana 6, could also not wait for opportunities to come his way. He decided to create them for himself and many others by starting a detergent manufacturing business.
Ganzwa created Arkwright Trading (PVT) LTD, a company that is on the verge of a breakthrough.
The company manufactures industrial and domestic chemicals, laboratory consumables, medical and surgical equipment as well as offer cleaning services.
The firm supplies to the University of Zimbabwe, Harare Institute of Technology, Midlands State University (Zvishavane Campus), the Ministry of Mines and City of Harare to name, but a few.
To achieve this, it was a long journey for Ganzwa. He started making detergents on a small-scale at home in 2010 and sell in the streets.
He was later employed by the Chemical Brothers and worked as a sales person for about three years.
But his life took another turn when the company faced challenges that saw many losing their jobs, including Ganzwa himself.
At that time, he made a decision that changed his life for the better.
In August 2015 after being awarded a tender at Zimbabwe Power Company (Hwange), he partnered with his workmate from the Chemical Brothers, Kennedy Kabanda. In a bid to make the best out of it, the two secured a loan and slowly started to meet the expectations and their company started to grow.
“For you to grow, you should have your own territory. With my partner we decided to venture into professional detergent making because we thought there were a lot of people in that area,” said Ganzwa.
“I have come to realise that this was the best decision ever as the company is doing very well. There is demand for our products and soon, we expect to be supplying in shops nationwide,” he said.
For the two founders of Arkwright Trading (PVT) LTD, the sky is the limit and this is just the beginning of a great business adventure.
The company aims at employing more people and soon, they hope that their products will be used in most households nationally, and who knows, maybe regionally.
