THE Dynamos executive committee appear to be in dire straits after the farcical manner in which they handled the bid to sack coach Herbert Maruwa exploded in their faces.
The melodramatic soap opera which chairman Moses Maunganidze’s executive been starring at since last week took an interesting turn yesterday after the management finally handed over three separate charge sheets to coach (not former coach) Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa, manager Richard Chihoro and assistant gaffer Murape Murape.
By the way Maruwa, who was fired last week has since been reinstated but just like Chihoro and Murape, he was immediately suspended without benefits.
The trio is facing varying charges largely emanating from a meeting they held with the management led by club vice-chairman Vincent Chawonza on August 4.
Chawonza also heads the powerful Dynamos human capital sub-committee.
Dynamos had initially announced that they had parted ways with Maruwa on mutual separation, a day after their Premiership encounter against Hwange at Barbourfields, which ended 0-0. The coach, who has since taken his matter up with the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe, however, distanced himself from the said “mutual separation”.
This sparked a new chapter in the Harare giants’ melodrama that also saw Maruwa’s status changed from being fired to being suspended with the former Black Rhinos gaffer being hauled to a disciplinary hearing.
His main charge is that he has under-performed as Dynamos coach in a league marathon currently led by Highlanders who enjoy a nine-point advantage of their old enemies after 18 games.
Maruwa has been arguing that he could not be deemed a failure in a championship race in which there are still 48 points still to play for.
His deputy Genesis Mangombe has since been tasked to take interim charge of the Glamour Boys.
But Dynamos insiders told Zimpapers Sports that the trio of Maruwa, Murape and Chihoro was paying the price for resisting interference by the executive committee members including Chawonza in technical matters particularly team selection.
Meddling in technical issues including team selection. “The truth of the matter is that Maruwa was resisting overtures by some members of the executive to influence team selection,” said the source.
“Everything else is cooked up. There are some players who are managed by some members of the executive and Maruwa was sitting them out.
“That frustrated the system and he had to go,” the sources said.
Chawonza dismissed the allegations but admitted the executive had questioned why some players were not getting game time.
“As an executive, we could question some reasoning behind sitting out other players whom the team signed,” said Chawonza.
“But, I have never influenced anything to do with team selection. That’s a technical issue. The biggest problem is that we didn’t even want to see this issue spilling into the public.
“We have been giving the technical team maximum support. I mean you can’t hire a dog and bark for it. We don’t even attend training so how would we then make team selection decisions.
“Personally when the whole team was signed, I was not even part of the executive”.
Apart from the Maruwa against the executive drama, there are also reports of disgruntlement on the part of the players who reportedly haven’t been getting winning bonuses for the past nine games.
Dynamos won five of those nine games.
Players who spoke to Zimpapers Sports on condition of anonymity, confirmed that they are yet to receive winning bonuses.
Chawonza insisted that they had religiously paid bonuses and suggested that those that were not paid may been erroneously omitted.
“I don’t want to comment about those issues since they involve our sponsors. There are always allegations levelled against people when something happens.
“But as far as I know, we are financially stable and if there is any player who is aggrieved, they know the protocol,” he said.
Interestingly Maruwa and Chihoro have been charged separately for allegedly extorting money from other technical members.
