FOOTBALL is often characterised by its brute force and crude tackles on the pitch.
Yet beneath those tough battles lie a stunning beauty.
One of its beautiful storylines has to be the special relationship between the players and fans.
Such is the case between Dynamos forward Leeroy Mavhunga and the club’s fans.
The electric winger believes they would not have survived relegation without the support of their fans.
“Last season, the going got tough,” Mavhunga said.
“On the pitch, it was difficult and, fortunately, when we needed the 12th man to drive us home, the fans came out in their numbers and rallied us through the most difficult phase you can imagine.”
To honour the fans, the forward has pledged to hand out his match-day jersey after each of the club’s home games this season.
“I appreciate them and this is a way to also say thank you.
“They stood with the team last season and we hope they will continue doing that.
“We have to be fighting for the title not the relegation zone. It’s clear and that is the target.”
Dynamos have been going through their pre-season preparations and are expected to tie down their new signings sooner.
“The pre-season has been tough as we are working to get to our best levels.
“Not yet 100 percent there but as an individual who was working throughout the off-season I hope I will be ready by the time we face Highlanders in the Charity Cup.
“There is no friendly match between Dynamos and Highlanders. Everything is always at stake and obviously we would want to win it for our fans and the club at large.”
