PUBLIC Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, Paul Mavima, has called on the public and private sector to join forces to deliver decent housing to Zimbabweans.
Speaking at Tynwald Sunset Villas housing project launch, he said it was a model of what the public and the private sector could achieve if they joined hands and united to build the nation.
“This partnership did not only provide housing, but it also created employment opportunities, stimulated economic growth, and as a result contributed to the realisation of national targets.
“As we move towards Vision 2030, which aims to transform Zimbabwe into a prosperous and upper middle-income country by 2030, it is essential that we continue to prioritise the provision of affordable housing to all our people. It is important that we all unite and join hands in developing our country.”
He said provision of affordable standard housing, which suits the environmental and climatic conditions, was key to the attainment of human dignity.
“The Government has, therefore, undertaken to significantly reduce the national housing backlog through implementation of the National Development Strategy 1.
“The Tynwald Sunset Villas housing project is an impeccable example of the social development pillar of National Development Strategy 1, aimed at improving the quality of life for all Zimbabweans through the provision of decent and affordable housing,” he said.
