In the heart of Zimbabwe’s burgeoning digital economy, two trailblazers stand out: Anesu Manjengwa, the innovative mind behind Zimitapp, and Shepherd Chimururi, the executive director of Dzidzo Inhaka.
Their contributions not only reshape the ICT landscape but also inspire future generations, blending technology with social responsibility.
Anesu Manjengwa: Empowering Entrepreneurs through Technology
Anesu Manjengwa is a name synonymous with innovation in Zimbabwe. As the founder of Zimitapp, he has created a platform that connects businesses with consumers, aiming to improve marketing strategies across the nation.
With a vision to empower local entrepreneurs, Manjengwa’s journey is not just about technology but about fostering a community of support.
“Zimitapp is more than just an application; it is a lifeline for local businesses. By creating a direct line of communication between entrepreneurs and consumers, we are enabling a thriving digital marketplace that benefits everyone,” says Manjengwa, reflecting on his mission to enhance accessibility and visibility for Zimbabwean businesses.
Prior to Zimitapp, Manjengwa gained recognition for his work on Sadza.com and the Vhakacha Visit Zimbabwe app.
His relentless pursuit of innovation is rooted in personal experience. Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, he witnessed first-hand the challenges faced by local businesses. This motivated him to develop solutions that not only solve problems but also celebrate local culture and commerce.
Outside of his professional life, Manjengwa enjoys engaging with the community. He often participates in workshops and seminars, sharing his knowledge with aspiring entrepreneurs.
“I believe in the power of mentorship. It is essential to guide the next generation of innovators, helping them navigate the challenges of the business world,” he said.
Shepherd Chimururi: Championing Inclusive Education in ICT
In contrast, Shepherd Chimururi’s work focuses on inclusivity within the ICT sector. As the executive director of Dzidzo Inhaka, he champions the cause of children with disabilities, ensuring they have access to computer science education.
His organisation promotes not only learning but also competitive platforms for students, particularly those with autism. For over 10 years he has been hosting e-sports competitions for all children from infant level going up, with many events being held at Mother Touch Group of Schools.
“Every child deserves an opportunity to shine. By creating spaces where students with disabilities can showcase their skills, we are not just promoting education; we are fostering confidence and self-worth,” said Chimururi.
Chimururi’s advocacy for inclusive education stems from his own experiences. He recalls lack of resources available for children with disabilities during his formative years, which ignited a desire to create change. Under his leadership, Dzidzo Inhaka has implemented programmes that allow students to engage with technology in interactive ways, enhancing their e-learning experiences.
In addition to his professional commitments, Chimururi enjoys family time and community outreach. He believes that real change starts at home and within the community.
“As a society, we must strive to support each other, promoting an environment where every child can thrive regardless of their abilities,” he said.
Both Manjengwa and Chimururi share a vision for Zimbabwe’s future one where technology serves as a bridge to empowerment and inclusivity. Their distinct yet complementary approaches highlight the multifaceted nature of the ICT sector, where innovation meets social responsibility.
As Zimbabwe continues to evolve digitally, the contributions of leaders like Manjengwa and Chimururi pave the way for a more inclusive and prosperous society. Their stories of resilience and dedication remind us that technology can indeed transform lives, making the dream of a vibrant digital economy a reality for all Zimbabweans.
