A HARARE woman has clashed with her son, who accuses her of witchcraft.

Florence Nyathi told the Harare Civil Court that her son, Irvine Nyathi, insults her each time he is drunk.

“He chases me out of the house and insults me whenever he is drunk. To my surprise, he is a good man whenever he is sober,” she said.

“My husband is sick and he accuses me of bewitching his father and threatens to beat me up.

“My grandchild comes to me seeking refuge whenever he fights with his wife.”

In response, Irvine blamed his behaviour on alcohol.

“I drink beer Your Worship, and I lose control whenever I have a problem with my wife.

“I have been telling my mother not to take sides in our dispute, but she is biased towards her daughter-in-law.”

Presiding magistrate, Judith Taruvinga, granted the peace order in Florence’s favour.

Irvine was told to respect his mother and live peacefully or he will be jailed.
