FRAUD, fakes, and a busted font!

A cheeky Kwekwe Polytechnic STUDENT who thought he could buy academic glory has ended up with a criminal record instead!

Carlos Tadiwa Mafuwe (22), a student at Kwekwe Polytechnic, has been convicted of academic fraud after he tried to cheat his way to success with doctored exam results.

According to Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) spokesperson Phyllis Chikundura, Mafuwe paid US$70 to the college’s Chief Security Officer, Chancemore Sibanda, who is now on the run, to fiddle with his HEXCO results and upgrade every module to a distinction!

But Mafuwe’s plot fell apart when he submitted the forged results for On Job Educational Training (OJET). Staff at the Examinations Office immediately noticed something was off, the font size didn’t match!

A quick verification with the National Examinations Management Information System (NEMIS) confirmed the dirty trick, and ZACC swooped in.

Mafuwe cracked under pressure and confessed, revealing Sibanda’s role in the scam.

He pleaded guilty to fraud and was convicted. Magistrates slapped him with 18 months in jail. Lucky for him, three months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour, and the remaining 15 months were replaced with 530 hours of community service.

From fake distinctions to real disgrace, all for US$70.

ZACC says the hunt is still on for the corrupt officer who helped cook the results.

Case closed… for now.
