Seasoned actor, Norbert “Nyere” Mutasa has decided to assist pupils at various schools understand and memorise stories in their set books through staging dramas adapted from the books.
Mutasa is currently moving around schools with his cast dramatising “Kutonhodzwa KwaChauruka”, which is one of the Ordinary Level set-books.
“Nyere” as he is popularly known following his role in local series “Tiriparwendo”, is a teacher by profession and says dramatising set books helps pupils understand the books better.
“Visual enactments not only help students understand better but it also improves concentration as students find it more interesting and worthwhile to watch a story rather than having to read it”, said Mutasa.
To date Mutasa has toured several secondary schools such as Chikangwe (Karoi), Zimuto (Masvingo), Regina Coeli (Nyanga) amongst others.
“Usually it all starts from attitude. Once a novel is deemed boring, it becomes difficult for teachers to change that perceptions hence these dramatisations should go a long way in building interest,” noted Mutasa.
Besides playing Nyere in Tiriparwendo has also featured in plays that include “The Forgotten Son” and “Chauruka Faces the Music” amongst many others.
He is also putting final touches on a music album which he is hoping to release before the end of the month.
He said the album titled “Murume Uyu” is his second after his first attempt did not do well.
