Renowned playwright William Shakespeare might have died 400 years ago, but his legacy still lives on.
Last week the British Embassy in Zimbabwe staged a one of his plays “Much Ado About Nothing”.
For three days, people from different walks of life braved the chilly weather to witness actors from different backgrounds staging the play.
Renowned actors from different countries played their roles in a perfect way, leaving theatre lovers satisfied.
If the playwright was alive today, he would have smiled at the impact of his works throughout the world.
The cast’s wardrobe complemented the love story explored in the play.
Set designer Angela Charitonos left no stone unturned in making sure each actor in the cast was dressed according to their role.
“Much Ado About Nothing” is a love comedy in which several plots are hatched and devices are framed all in the name of love.
The play is about a musical group Rock Band, Don Pedro, and the counts who returned from a tour and arrived at Leonato’s country house called Messina.
One of the band members fell in love with Leonato’s daughter, Hero, and Pedro fixes up their marriage.
Friends and relatives tried to destroy Hero’s marriage, though it failed.
Like all Shakespearean comedies everything seems to be well in the end.
Some of the actors that featured in the cast are Khozyani Muwowo (who hails from Zambia), Collina Mvududu, Simon Thomas, Joy Chipidza, Memory Muzondiwa, Ian Mills and Rahp Koudounaris among others.
They were exited to be part of the cast and their experience and commitment did justice to the play.
Several sponsors came aboard making the event exciting and thrilling.
The large attendance was testimony to how much the Bard’sshis works are still relevant in the modern day society.
