Afcon: Warriors remain upbeat

DESPITE injury fears in their camp, the Warriors are confident of starting the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations finals campaign on a positive note as they intensify preparations.

Forward Kuda Mahaci limped out while goalkeeper Petros Mhari was taken off with a knock during their preparatory match against Sudan on Sunday, while England-based star Jordan Zemura is doubtful for the opening match following a Covid-19 scare at his club Bournemouth.

However, Zimbabwe received a major boost to their preparations when the pair of strikers Tino Kadewere and David Moyo joined camp last night.

Coach Norman Mapeza takes the Warriors through their drills

Captain Knowledge Musona, who has been in terrific form for his Saudi Arabia club, is expected to touch down in Cameroon tonight.

Although the team will miss such stars as Khama Billiat, Marvellous Nakamba and Marshall Munetsi, coach Norman Mapeza has expressed satisfaction with how they have gone about their preparations so far.

He said there were positive aspects to pick from their goalless draw against Sudan in the practice match.

“Overall, I am happy with the performance of the boys. If we can have the same performance and the same desire which I saw towards our first game of the tournament, I think there might be some surprises,” he said.

Zimbabwe get the ball rolling against Senegal next Monday.
