AFM REVEREND, CONGREGANT IN ROW OVER FARM

A FARM in Chegutu has become the source of a bitter dispute between an Apostolic Faith Mission church leader and the brother of a congregant who donated the farm to the reverend.

Reverend Peter Magejo is refusing to vacate the farm, which he claims was given to him as a gift by Simbarashe Zindoga.

Simbarashe’s brother, Willard Madzima, told H-Metro that his younger brother pledged the farm to Rev Magejo at a time when he was ill and his sanity was questionable.

“Simbarashe fell sick and his sanity was questionable when he sought for prayers from Rev Magejo,” said Willard.

“He pledged to seed his farm to the man of God.

“Taking advantage of his questionable sanity, Rev Magejo lured him into signing an affidavit about the offer.

“The man of God was aware that Simbarashe signed while he was not in his sober senses but was seriously ill from a medically diagnosed psychiatric condition.

“Rev Magejo tried in vain to change the farm ownership at the Ministry of Lands.”

He added:

“When Simbarashe came to his senses he questioned his decision and even claimed he could have been duped into signing the document.

“He is yet to recover and Rev Magejo has been refusing to vacate the farm.

“We have been left with no option other than taking the matter before the courts for justice to take its course.”

Contacted for comment, Rev Magejo, said:

“I have been at this farm for over ten years, I am yet to understand what Simbarashe is trying to do by fighting with me.

“Handina kwandirikuenda, ndakatorima saka ngaasiyane neni.”

Simbarashe’s family has since approached the High Court seeking a cancellation of the affidavit signed when Simbarashe was under weather, according to Willard.

Simbarashe and Rev Magejo are living together in separate houses at the farm which is located at Chigwell Estate in Chegutu.
