Africa’s Golden Jubilee at the gallery

conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs titled “50th Anniversary Celebration” with founding fathers of the OAU/AU, is running concurrently with another superb exhibition by local artists.

Dubbed “Mibvunzo Isina Mhinduro” (Questions Without Answers), the show interrogates the dreams of Africa’s founding fathers. In more than 40 portraits of both fallen and living great African statesmen, it illustrates how deep-rooted unity of the continent’s states manifested itself first in the development of pan-Africanism.

Its genesis could be dated to the 20th century when the term “pan-Africanism” first came to into vogue.
Hence, the focal point is to provide an opportunity to knowledge the achievements and contributions of great men and women who championed the idea of pan-Africanism that culminated in the formation of OAU, which was rebranded in 2002 to AU.

It was intended to challenge the main activities of imperialist domination, namely the slave trade, colonialism and racism.

Writings by luminaries notably George Padmore, Isaac Wallace-Johnson and Trantz Fanon among others cannot go unmentioned to its development.

“Mibvunzo Isina Mhinduro” is introspection into the African scenario through a mosaic of issues that have dogged the continent for a long time and have not been resolved up to date.

The exhibition traces the issues of Black Consciousness, Ubuntu, pan-Africanism and Negritude among others and how they relate to the current situation in Africa.
