Africa’s significance to Zim tourism rising

HARARE.- The African continent is now the fastest growing source market for tourist arrivals into Zimbabwe, according to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority’s 2015 first half tourism statistics overview report. The stats show that during the first half of the year, arrivals from mainland Africa amounted to 811 717 up from 745 566 last year, representing a 9 percent jump.

“To a large extent, the increase in arrivals from South Africa (38 percent) boosted the rise in arrivals from Mainland Africa due the big market share it commands,” attributed the ZTA.

The main country sources from the continent include South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi, Namibia, DRC and Botswana. The increase in tourist arrivals from mainland Africa was largely responsible for the country recording a 7 percent jump in international tourist arrivals to 930 276 during the first six months.

However traditional source markets underperformed during the period. – BH24.
