Air Marshal Shiri made the remarks at the annual commander’s shooting competition held at Cleveland Rifle Range in Harare.
He said Zimbabwe and the region enjoyed relative peace because the force managed to maintain peace and the rule of law.
“Our continued participation in regional and international peace support operations is testimony of our unparalleled commitment to maintain peace and protect civilians,” he said.
Air Marshal Shiri said the hardships associated with conflicts such as in the post Arab Spring was a reminder to all for the need to uphold peace.
He called upon the corporate world to acknowledge the role the uniformed forces play in the country and back their programmes.
“Civilians must be educated on the ammunition used by uniformed forces such that they have relevant information on how this country was liberated.
“Reinforcement of skills in all service personnel and civilians is necessary so that they effectively perform various roles in defending our country and ensuring that there is peace and tranquillity,” he said.
Zimbabwe’s continued participation in regional and international peace support operations, Air Marshal Shiri said, was testimony of the force’s unparalleled commitment to protect civilians.
He lauded war veterans who attended this year’s event, adding their presence increased morale among younger members in the security sector.
“They brought independence so that many can enjoy sporting activities without being prejudiced,” he said.
This year’s competition had 431 participants of both sexes drawn from all corners of Zimbabwe. It was attended by senior members of the uniformed forces including ZNA’s Major General Douglas Nyikayaramba, ZRP Assistant Commissioner Michael Tanyanyiwa, ZPS Commissioner Major General Paradzai Zimondi, War Veterans including Cde Joseph Chinotimba and Members from the President’s Office.
The overall first prize went to Sergeant John Chindito who walked away with a holiday package for two at a yet to be disclosed Victoria Falls hotel and US$1 500 spending money.
The second prize went to Constable Tsitsi Gabi who walked away with a return trip for two to Bulawayo and the third prize went to Sergeant Cecilia Simango who won a meal voucher at Holiday Inn.
