over Panthers – their first win of the season.
But it’s all gloomy at giants Old Hararians following their first league defeat at the weekend. Defending champions Old Georgians continue to enjoy life at the summit of the log table after a convincing 81-10 win over Old Miltonians while Mutare suffered a 17-24 defeat to Busters.
Airforce embarked on their journey to Bulawayo’s Hartsfield on the back of two defeats, the biggest being a 98-0 thumping at the hands of Harare Sports Club the previous week.
Desmond Mukwasi led the Airforce attack with a big contribution as he managed to plant three tries while Mukai Chaya and Tatenda Chikonyora weighed in with a try each.
Other points came from Slimfield Moyo (a drop goal and a conversion) while Masimba Muzenda converted the other two tries. Airforce official Philip Moses was a delighted man.
“The boys were a bit more serious with the game at the weekend and this was also helped by the return of some of the players that were missing as they were recovering from last season’s injuries.
“We managed to stick to the game plan and corrected the errors we noticed when we played Sports Club in the last game and I am happy we got the full points.
“Now we have to focus on the next game as we will be hosting the league games at the Manyame airbase and I am sure we will be able to scrap another win against Old Miltonians,” said Moses.
Old Hararians team manager Simba Khaka yesterday said the challenge was on his team to recover following the heavy defeat at the hands of the Red Lions.
“They just played a much better game and we failed to raise our game but I would not say that our boys were complacent but it was just not our day.
“Most of the players were not in the game and it is easy to cover up when there is one players who is out of the game but when you have six or seven players out then it becomes tough,” said Khaka.
Results
Airforce 46, Panthers 17; Sports Club 43, Old Hararians 5; Old Georgians 81, Old Miltonians 10 Mutare 17, Busters 24.
