The plane known as the Victoria Falls was detained by American General Supplies upon landing at London’s Gatwick International Airport.
The American firm secured a court injunction in the US that gave it the power to impound the aircraft over a $2,2 million debt.
AirZim acting chief executive officer, Innocent Mavhunga said the plane arrived on Sunday.
“It came this morning, it is the best thing that has ever happened because we were able to bring our passengers back home,” he said.
“We appreciate treasury for bailing us out.”
The carrier, whose total debt amounts to $100 million, has been failing to pay its pilots and other workers, among other obligations.
Air Zimbabwe is one of the parastatals earmarked for commercialisation to restore viability.
It has depended on Government bail-outs now and again in recent years.
The Government has since said it is engaged in negotiations a strategic partner for an equity investment in the airline. — New Ziana.
