Album launch with piracy in mind

recording companies and musicians are putting their heads together in an effort to come up with ways to push the volumes of music sales thereby countering piracy.
In that effort they have been engaging other music stakeholders, Government departments and members of the public whom they have brought together at various events to map the way forward for the music industry.
To those who have been following a number of album launches that have been taking place in Harare recently, the launches have taken a more holistic, productive and thought-provoking approach rather than being mere launches. One of such events was an album launch by South African-based gospel musician Otis Mahlatsi, who launched his album “Mwari Anoziva” in Harare recently.
Although the album was recorded in South Africa at Plug Yourself Studios,  a local company — Diamond Studios — made sure that influential people in local music circles attended the launch and made their contributions to help the artiste chart his course in the music industry.
Fellow musicians also attended and gave positive feedback to how the musician should go about in making sure that he reaps something tangible from the sales of his music without pirates benefiting where they did not sow. Radio and television presenters and DJs who were also present were advised to give his music the kind of publicity it deserves in order to make it accessible to as wide a listenership as possible.
The album — which is being marketed and distributed by Corner Studios in Zimbabwe — carries the tracks “Mwari Anoziva”, “Mwari Wangu”, “Ndokuremekedza Mwari”, “Haukumbire”, “Ali-Ali”, “Vedzinza”, “Vachida Vasingade”, “In My Life” and “Haana Kuteerera Jonah”.
