‘Alcohol made me violent’

A MUTARE man has landed himself in trouble after he assaulted his wife on suspicion that she was cheating on him.

Tatenda Tadyamasimba (25) appeared before Mutare senior magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura facing domestic violence charges. He is alleged to have assaulted his wife, Idah Mauni (21), accusing her of sleeping with other men during his absence. It was the State’s case led by Mr Shepherd Chavarika retired home after work and found the window to the bedroom broken. He went berserk and started assaulting her with kitchen utensils and chairs.

“The complainant sustained severe injuries and a swollen face and was medically examined,” said Mr Chavarika.

Tadyamasimba pleaded guilty and asked for leniency saying he was under the influence of alcohol.

“I was under the influence of alcohol Your Worship, I could not help it.”

He was ordered to pay a fine of $70 on or before July 24, failure of which he will spend 70 days in prison.
