Alexio Kawara has promised to take fans down memory lane when he unleashes his yesteryear hits at theHarare International Conference Centre where he shares the stage with South African group Mafikizolo, Oliver Mtukudzi and Tocky Vibes. Tickets for the show, running under the banner “Harare Lockdown”, go on sale today at HICC and all Focal Point outlets in the capital.
Alexio said his performance would mainly be characterised by his hits so that people can sing along and dance to the music they already know.
“We will play hits such as ‘Shaina’, ‘Chibvukubvuku’, ‘Musikana’, ‘Tinodanana’ and ‘Kumba Kwenyu’. We want people to enjoy the songs that they know. Although I might play one or two new tracks, the emphasis would be on making people happy. The idea is to have fun. All musicians taking part in the show are good and every slot has to be perfect,” said Alexio.
The “Shaina” hitmaker has been sampling songs from his latest and upcoming albums, but he has probably realised that there would be tight competition at the Mafikizolo show and he has to do a thorough job.
Mafikizolo make a welcome return to Harare and their fans will be looking forward to a great time with the “Khona” hitmakers. The duo is known for delivering powerful acts in the region.
Mtukudzi is riding high with his newest album “Mukombe Wemvura” and he is likely to leave lasting impressions with his act while Tocky Vibes is regarded as the man of the moment and he is expected to prove that point.
Show organiser Simba Madziwa of Simmad Entertainment said they have prepared a spectacular festive season ignition event for music lovers.
“It will be the last day at work for most workers and they will be in festive mood. Mafikizolo is a talented duo and we want people to begin their festive season in style. We promise a good show because we have many spices on the programme. Tuku will ensure that the visitors are well complemented,” said Ma- dziwa.
Mafikizolo is a renowned regional group. Their name may mean “new kids on the block, who just arrived yesterday” in Zulu, but Mafikizolo is no newcomer. This vibrant, stylish group that created a delicious dance brew by mixing old and new South African sounds, have released seven hit filled afro-pop albums, sold over a million copies, picked up countless awards, and is undoubtedly one of the most successful groups in South Africa.
The group has made several visits to Zimbabwe and their Friday show is likely to set the pace for a memorable festive season.
