“We have been playing as Ali Sundowns in the Harare Province Junior League for the past six years.
“Our boys teams have been consistent in fulfilling their fixtures but we have now formed a women’s team,” said Ali.
Ali said the call to form a women’s team came after realisation that some players who dominate the established clubs come from their catchment area of Mabvuku and Tafara.
“Some of the girls who play for top teams like Flame Lily or Black Rhinos actually come from Mabvuku/Tafara.
“This is the area where we get most of our junior teams and have decided to give the girls a chance to play,” said Ali.
Ali Sundowns Ladies will play their first game by taking on Aces Youth Academy at Tafara on Saturday.
“For now we have just one ladies teams but the idea is to have age groups just like what we have for the boys.
“We are still preparing for the new season and will engage Aces in a friendly tie. We could have brought a franchise but we decided to play and prove our competitiveness,” said Ali.
