THE second edition of the All-Female Artists Awards Zimbabwe (AFAAZ) is set to be held on March 28.
They will run under the theme ‘Lets Do It’.
The event, which coincides with Women’s Month, is meant to celebrate various contributions of women in the arts and how they have managed to balance the demands of the industry and their traditional roles in the society.
Founder of the awards, Sarah Dhliwayo, said this year’s event will be combined with a three-day Thuthuka Expo, where women in the arts sector will interact through workshops and open markets on how to expand in the industry.
“Women are strong people who need to be appreciated and they have achieved a lot in the industry regardless of being pulled down by men.
“It is this resilience that has allowed them to expand and grow their brands as far as arts is concerned.
“This year we have open market and workshop days from March 24-27.
“This will be a platform for women to showcase their craft works, fashion designs, poetry and many other side hustles they are doing within the sector.”
She added:
“We are tired of being abused by men and being taken advantage of in the industry and hence we provided this open market so that everyone can be aware of what women are doing out there to fund their projects.
“The awards will then close off the week with various accolades encompassing disciplines such as music, dance, theatre, sculpture, painting and literature.
“Honorary awards will also be given to female legends, who have made a significant difference in the sector paving the way for future generations of artists,” said Sarah
