ALL is set for the Bulawayo Pool Association (BPA) elective annual general meeting where a new executive will be ushered in on Saturday.
The meeting will be at Raylton Sports Club and according to the association’s outgoing secretary general Tapiwa Sikwila nomination submissions closed on 25 January.
BPA executives (Premier League and Division One) or team executives but restricted to chairperson, secretary-general and treasurer were the only ones eligible to nominate candidates.
“For provincial elections, all BPA affiliates vote. Thus to imply all 47 teams in Bulawayo will cast their votes through a single representative. Any of the following- chairman, secretary-general and treasurer are eligible to vote,” said Sikwila.
Over three candidates are reportedly going to be ushered into office uncontested.
These are the association’s presidential aspirant Fortune “Mtshina” Tawengwa, his aspiring deputy Wilson Mudari and aspiring development officer MacDonald Mudege.
Outgoing BPA publicity secretary Farai Nyandoro is seeking re-election in a similar capacity.
B-Metro Sport sought comment from some of the candidates and they had this to say:
MacDonald Mudenge (who takes over from Osbornewells Dziko)
“It’s not all about assuming office because the key thing should be on how my stay will positively impact on the development of the game. I will be there to change things together with other executive members. Against a background of the fact that Pool has been perceived as a sporting discipline that is played by drunkards and prostitutes, we need a collective effort to change that perception. I will advocate for its development from grassroots level. Pool is a game that should be played even at schools.”
Wilson Mudari (who steps into former vice-president Donald Wadawu’s shoes).
“I learnt a lot from the outgoing executive members. The former BPA vice-president Donald Wadawu is an open person who has taught me the importance of team work. As such, I will further cultivate the spirit of unity in the association and I believe that will help us develop the game.”
Fortune Tawengwa (who is poised for president’s office previously held by Patrick Taziwa).
“I pledge to be the people’s servant. This is a fascinating sporting discipline and I look forward to taking this sporting discipline to greater heights. Team work will be very essential and I will make sure every association member’s views and contributions are respected.”
Farai Nyandoro
“I will further market BPA to potential stakeholders. There is a need to further establish good relations in Bulawayo and beyond. Pool should be a family sport and as such we will seek to create a conducive atmosphere that will even see the young and the old converge on different venues enjoying the game.”
Kudakwashe Shoko (who is gunning for the Player Representative’s post).
“I’m looking forward to taking over from Admire Mahlunge and I’m very much confident lots of votes will come my way. I have been into pool for so long and I think I can give a big helping hand in the development of the game.”
The outgoing executive also had Shepherd Moyo as treasurer and Priscilla Lunga as women in pool representative. Johnson Mawushe was the chairman of referees and John Mahachi was the athletes commission representative.
