All set for Chibuku Neshamwari Byo finals

It’s all systems go for the Bulawayo Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional dance festival finals taking place at Manor Hotel today. Ten groups Khaya Arts, Siyanqoba Theatre Arts, Ezimnyama Arts, Izenzo Performing Arts, Jaiva Traditional group, Iluba Lemvelo, Iwisa Arts, Simunye Simunye, Ingwenyama Arts and Snipers Crew will battle it out for a sole ticket to represent Bulawayo at the national finals slated for July 18 in the city.

Exhibiting a repertoire of dances that include isitshikitsha, amantshomane, muchongoyo, gumboot, ingquzu, chinyambira and the Zulu dance, the winning group will walk away with $500. Those who will take second and third place will pocket $300 and $200 respectively.

Last year’s provincial winners — Sekunjalo ma Afrika will be the guest group of the day.

Those who will come out tops today will join nine other groups vying for the national trophy. So far, seven provinces have held their finals with only one remaining as the Manicaland province is also holding its finals today at Yadzonzai Bar in Chipinge. Mashonaland Central will hold its finals next week Saturday.

At the finals, Jahunda Community Arts which displays umtshongoyo will represent Matabeleland South, Undi Gure (Nyawu) will battle for Midlands, Makarekare Dance Troop (Mbende Jerusarem) for Mashonaland East) and Budiriro Arts (Chinyambera) gunning for Mashonaland West.

Others participating groups will include Gango Traditional Group from Masvingo and Harare’s Shingai Dance Troop.

Those who will come out tops at the national finals will win $4,000, $3,000 and $2,000 respectively.
