The pride of Africa is in its heritage and cultural values that have been recognised globally and for years attracted many people from different continents.

There has been several cultural activities initiated by registered arts promoters and at large the arts governing board National Arts Council of Zimbabwe. One such event is the Culture Week that has brought cultural integration within the country.

On Saturday , Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko is expected to grace the national launch of the event at Nemakonde High School in Chinhoyi.

The move to have the Vice President as the guest of honour shows the Government’s commitment in developing the arts industry.

According to the organisers of the event this year’s theme “Celebrating Arts and Cultural Entrepreneurship” is a call for Zimbabweans in general and artists in particular to regard the culture sector as having immense potential to contribute to livelihoods and national income.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe communications and marketing officer Cathrine Mtombeni said preparations for the event are on course. Various performances have been lined up for the national launch with sungura ace Alick Macheso, Uncle Ritchie, ZRP Tomlison Primary School, poets, comedians and other dance groups from Mashonaland West scheduled to perform. There will be exhibitions from Bembera (Mutare), Zimbabwe College of Music, Dance Trust of Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Arts among others.
