All is set for the Doctor Nero commemorations slated for Harare Gardens on Sunday. Musicians Alick Macheso, The Charambas and Chimbetus – Allan, Suluman, Tryson and Douglas – are expected to perform at the show to honour the late Naison “Doctor Nero” Chimbetu.
Naison died on March 6, 2005 and last year he was commemorated in a big way and that was the first show to unite the Chimbetu’s. “Dr Nero” as Naison was fondly known was credited for his input on some of Simon’s songs. Simon and Naison took the industry by storm with their Marxist Brothers before parting ways.
Naison formed G7 Commandos the group he lead up to his death. His son Tryson has taken over his father’s music heritage. The gig will see also other upcoming artists performing.
Tryson said this year the event is going to be a great because they started the commemorations in South Africa in a big way.
“If you are an artist you make your first regional tour and people accept you in a big way it encourages and without my father’s advice when I was young, all this could not be happening,” said Tryson.
He said they have planned to give fans a memorable show.
“Just like what we did in South Africa this will be happening here at home we are prepared for the show,” he said.
Last year the musician indicated his desire to work with Pastor Charamba in his coming project and the two will be sharing stage on Sunday.
Show promoters said they were happy to commemorate the life of the late musician in a big way.
